Pistol - CHP leader responded to attacks from MHP
CHP leader Özgür Özel, in response to attacks from the junior partner in the ruling coalition after the Sinan Ateş murder, said:
“There is no difference between İzzet Ulvi Yönter and Semih Yalçın (MHP deputy chairmen). They are the ones most afraid of normalization. Because in a normalized Turkey, no one would leave the funeral of a former president of Ülkü Ocakları unattended in the heart of the capital.”
Following this, an incident reminiscent of the political assassination periods that stained the country's political history with blood and triggered military coups—transforming Turkey’s already faltering "Semi-Democratic, Secular, and Social Rule of Law" regime into a "Semi-Fascist Religious Neo-Patrimonial Sultanist" structure—occurred:
On June 18, 2024, MHP Deputy Chairmen İzzet Ulvi Yönter and Semih Yalçın, targeted in CHP leader Özgür Özel's statements, presented a gun to MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli.
But it didn’t stop there:
Another MHP official, İzzet Gören, a member of the MHP Central Executive Board, shared photos of the moment the gun was gifted on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
And still, it continued:
Gören added a message to his X post, saying, “A brave man’s gaze is sharper than a coward’s weapon.” He further shared another photo from the same event with the caption: “What matters is not deriving power and honor from seats, but adding power and honor to seats!”

The media covered these photos and messages with the following headlines:
“Notable gift to Devlet Bahçeli!” “Armed pose from İzzet Ulvi Yönter and Semih Yalçın!” “MHP deputy leaders gift Bahçeli a gun.” “Following Özel’s message of conciliation, Gören gifts Bahçeli a gun.” “Armed message from the two MHP figures pointed out by Özgür Özel.” “MHP’s Gören shares: MHP deputies gift Bahçeli a gun.” “Controversial ‘armed’ post from MHP Central Executive Board member İzzet Gören!”
It appears that the ruling party, with its control over the police, gendarmerie, military, and even the judiciary, is not satisfied...
They also want guns:
An insatiable “appetite for plunder!”

Meanwhile, speaking of guns:
Has the gun that killed Sinan Ateş been found?
And what about the gun that killed Bedrettin Cömert?
