Science doesn’t need Religion, religion doesn’t need science (3)
"The question of what kind of universe we live in has been a subject of fascination throughout history. Numerous theories about the origin, structure, and functioning of the universe have been proposed. Despite the intense debate, consensus has been elusive."
"Great minds of Western science, such as Aristotle, Ptolemy, Giordano Bruno, Telesio Patrizzi, Galileo Galilei, and Isaac Newton, made observations and developed formulas claiming that the universe was either finite or infinite. Yet none of them anticipated the expanding, dynamic universe model."
"In the 20th century, Edwin Hubble, using his advanced telescope, observed that all star clusters were rapidly moving away from each other, leading to the introduction of the expanding universe model."
"This discovery once again validated the Quran against historical views and scientific data. The concept of an expanding universe was first proposed in the 1900s, and before this, no source other than the Quran had mentioned this truth."
"The intellectual heritage of ancient Greece with Thales, Plato, and Ptolemy; the Middle Ages with Copernicus, Kepler, Galileo, and Newton; and the modern era with Descartes and Kant—all these great minds failed to propose an expanding universe."
"However, the Quran, as it has consistently been validated through history, also proved its point about the ever-expanding dynamic universe, offering one of its miraculous aspects to those who seek the truth."
Assistant Professor Dr. Emre Dorman made these statements as a matter of fact, but why did it take a 20th-century astronomer -such as Edwin Hubble- with his advanced telescope, to confirm the expanding universe model? Why didn't a Muslim, aware of the Quran's revelations, make this discovery?
Even if we accept the claim as true, the critical point is first developing the telescope without knowing what's written in the Quran, then formulating the “expanding dynamic universe model.” Therefore, what Emre Dorman presents is nothing but sophistry. It's like offering a pressure cooker when pants don’t fit.
Moreover, he exaggerates: In Surah Adh-Dhariyat, verse 47, the word “universe” isn't used, it says “sky.” Emre Dorman, are you claiming to know better than God? In the translation by Prof. Dr. Yaşar Nuri Öztürk, it says, “As for the sky, We have constructed it with might, and indeed, We are [its] expander.”
D. Masson translated it to French as: “Et le ciel? Nous l’avons solidement construit et nous lui avons donné de vastes proportions.”
Even Masson didn’t think to add “l’univers” (the universe) in parentheses after “le ciel” (the sky).
Nor did the poor English translator: “And heaven - We built it with might, and We extend it wide.”
So why is Emre Dorman engaging in mistranslation and misinterpretation? Because religious figures, in all religions, have always engaged in deception. However, the knowledge in the Quran is limited to the knowledge available on the day the last surah (Surah An-Nas) was revealed.
On May 31, 2017, Emre Dorman continued with his claims:
“The Sun runs on to a resting place. That is the determination of the Almighty, the All-Knowing.” (Surah Ya-Sin: 38)
“He has made the Sun and the Moon subservient; each runs for an appointed term; He regulates all things and explains the signs that you may believe with certainty in the meeting with your Lord.” (Surah Ar-Rad: 2)
For long periods in history, it was believed that the Earth stood still at the center of the universe and the Sun revolved around it. The process, which started with Copernicus and continued with Kepler and Galileo, established that the Sun was stationary at the center of the universe, with the Earth revolving around it. Although this discovery was revolutionary, the belief that the Sun was stationary was also incorrect. This error was only recognized much later, thanks to advanced telescopes and the accumulation of knowledge in cosmology.
