Animal Protection Act: You made history with the law you passed!
The command to enact the law immediately was so powerful that you even took a group photo to prove your success. Some people might not know you individually, so make sure to write down your names to complete the historical record.
For years, you ignored a growing problem...
You gave hope to animal rights advocates, causing them to flood the Parliament, and you prepared drafts...
You listened to veterinarians for formality's sake and then did what you intended...
Most of you have no idea what this new law entails. You just know the law had to be passed...
One out of every four laws you pass is to correct mistakes in previous laws. You view any issues encountered as "We'll just pass another law to fix it."
Do you close roads to traffic because people die or get injured in car accidents?
Do you pass a law allowing the extermination of all bees because wasps harm people?
Do you suggest eradicating all mushrooms because there are poisonous ones in nature?
We should continue by mentioning the 400 women killed by men each year, but let's stop here!
The lie starts with the name of the law:
Animal Protection Act!
For days, the debated law fundamentally remains unchanged from its original form, which involves the method of killing stray animals. Only the wording has changed. The decision to kill stray animals will be made as follows:
- If there is suspicion that they are dangerous!
Suspicion is sufficient!
The AKP logic always views "suspicion" as conclusive proof of guilt. In past frame-up trials, they used even the slightest suspicion as a reason for conviction.
If a law is passed in the early hours of the morning despite all resistance, there is something abnormal about it.
The law passed before dawn yesterday will require additional regulations for its implementation. Clearly, the struggle will continue. From the morning hours, many people have called for a campaign for the president to veto the law. While it's a valuable effort to clarify positions, for Erdoğan to veto a law he commanded to be passed quickly, there must be something significant in return flowing to the Treasury!
Know that the mistreatment of animals will eventually extend to people if needed!
From now on, the most beneficial approach may be for local governments to develop solutions and pressure the government into adopting these solutions.
Not only CHP-run municipalities, but perhaps even mayors from the ruling party will face difficulties in implementing this law.
It's hard to explain this to the ruling party, but everything in nature is connected in a chain. When one link in this chain breaks, the balance is disrupted. These disruptions can lead to unforeseen consequences in an already fragile natural equilibrium. Those curious can research the origins of the Black Death in the Middle Ages, where the mass killing of cats led to an extraordinary increase in rats and subsequent consequences.
Turkey has 29 veterinary faculties and 11,000 veterinary clinics. Planning must involve them responsibly.
With this law, the AKP-MHP coalition made history...
Now, it's time to write a new history that prioritizes life with the people!
Life is stronger than the law!
