China's power to make peace
The signed Beijing Dialogue declaration is critically important as it disrupts the US-Israel strategy. For years, the US and Israel have exploited the division and dual governance in Palestine as an advantage. Additionally, the US has monopolized the Israel-Palestine issue, imposing a deadlock in favor of Israel.
China's move not only breaks the US monopoly on the issue but also lays the groundwork for unity in Palestine.
China Facilitated Iran-Saudi Peace
This success indicates that China has now reached a global level of "peace-making" power. The ability to set up a peace table is often more significant than the power to wage war.
Recall that a year ago, on March 10, 2023, China surprisingly brokered peace between Iran and Saudi Arabia. This was a crucial step for the Middle East, as the US was manipulating the Iran-Saudi Arabia rivalry to shape the region and attempting to form an Israel-Gulf front against Iran.
According to CIA Director William Burns, China caught the US off guard by facilitating Tehran-Riyadh peace, leading to rapid normalization between the Gulf and Iran.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister in China
Another sign of China's effective peace-making power is visible on the Ukraine front. The US is implementing a "long war" strategy in Ukraine to wear down Russia, bind European allies to its strategy, and gain significant profits in the military industry and energy sectors.
China, however, has countered the US's "long war" strategy with a "useful peace" program. The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, leveraging its peace-making influence, hosted Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba. Kuleba will discuss peace with Chinese officials from July 24-26.
On the first day, Kuleba met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and expressed appreciation for China's active role in maintaining peace and international order. He stated that Ukraine and Brazil are reviewing the "Common Understandings" document and are ready to negotiate with Russia. Kuleba emphasized that the negotiations should aim for a rational, concrete, fair, and lasting peace (CGTN Turk, 24.7.2024).
In May, China and Brazil, two BRICS partners, published the "Common Understandings on the Political Resolution of the Ukraine Crisis."
Meanwhile, Ukraine's message of readiness for negotiations was positively received in Moscow. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that "Ukraine's negotiation message aligns with Russia's approach" (AA, 24.7.2024).
Opportunity Ahead for Turkiye
China's approach of seeking peace and bringing parties together in both the Israel-Palestine and Ukraine-Russia fronts marks a new phase in the construction of multipolarity.
The world, especially the Global South, will benefit much more from China's peace-making power in the coming years.
As for us? We can benefit from China's peace-making power, the Belt and Road Initiative, and its balancing act against the US in several areas, primarily the TRNC. Provided we can produce appropriate policies...
