Everyone is preparing for Trump

19 Temmuz 2024 Cuma

There’s an explosion in companies' foreign currency debts. This happens because they bring in foreign currency, convert it to TL, and take advantage of the high interest rates. When the time comes, they’ll return the principal to their owners. The Central Bank is celebrating, saying their foreign exchange reserves are increasing and breaking records. But why are you celebrating? That money isn’t yours. You only converted the incoming foreign currency to TL to earn high interest. When they leave, they’ll take the money they entrusted to you.

It's as if a huge fine has been imposed on the country, we are being robbed. Civil servants, workers, retirees, minimum wage earners, agricultural producers, and livestock breeders are all paying the price. The only solution is to change the government that ignores you. Until a government comes that takes you seriously, there is no other way.

The Footsteps of Trump

In November, there will be elections in the U.S. Trump’s chances against Biden are increasing. Institutions in the U.S. are preparing for a new era with the expectation of Trump's return. And it’s not just them; the whole world is betting on this card. The Democrats attacked Russia through Ukraine with the strategy of “reducing enemies.” While it’s clear that Russia has been weakened, it’s unrealistic to say it has been diminished. Trump is expected to directly target the "big enemy," China. This is alarming.

How would Trump’s re-election in the U.S. affect Turkey? This is the point we should focus on. The U.S. military is positioned around NATO member Turkey. The U.S. faces significant challenges in Iraq, which Iran has essentially taken over. They can’t find an anti-Iranian politician to install in power. The U.S. presence in Syria is most troubling for Turkey. Trump's tendency to withdraw troops to reduce the economic burden of global policing puts Europe face to face with Russia. In this context, Turkey might find some relief in Syria. But this would require an agreement with Assad. The timing is right; as the U.S. deals with Biden’s illness and potential assassination attempts on Trump, Turkey and Syria should normalize relations. At this stage, it seems Russia needs to become a bit more effectively involved in the process.

If Trump comes to power, Turkey-Syria relations should already be normalized.

The AKP government can establish relationships with Trump to a certain extent. We saw this during the Peace Spring Operation. However, the AKP must overcome one of its shortcomings. This was evident in the “take the pastor, give the pastor” negotiation. Trump said, "If necessary, I will destroy the Turkish economy," and he did. Because the AKP government, seeing itself as larger than life, entered a contest of burning dollars with the U.S., which is also a dollar-producing factory. We are still struggling in the wreckage of an economy that this illogical approach has collapsed.

We must understand that others decide what happens in the world. We need to think about ourselves.
