Protectors of Cem Küçük but not the police
As you know, the terrorist organization DHKP-C carried out an armed attack on the police checkpoint in front of the Istanbul Courthouse. The attackers were killed, and a citizen named Dilfiraz Karataş lost her life, while three police officers among six people were injured. One of the injured officers, a former special operations member, prevented the attack from escalating.
Following the terrorist attack, 48 suspects were arrested and detained.
You've read about these...
But, an important detail was overlooked.
On live TV, a person named Cem Küçük openly broadcasted the name of the police officer who "neutralized the treacherous terrorists," calling him a "heroic former special operations officer."
What did this mean?
Article 6 of the Anti-Terror Law (TMK), states: "Those who disclose or publish the identities of public officials involved in counter-terrorism, or who make it understandable to whom it is directed by stating or not stating names and identities, or who target individuals in this way, shall be punished with imprisonment from one to three years."
Given this context...
Why do those who file lawsuits under this article against the author of these lines and many of our newspaper's esteemed writers not lift a finger against Cem Küçük?
Look, I'm not calling for anyone's arrest. The judiciary has already decayed with the methods of the AKP media.
However... If you know a bit of recent Turkish history, you would understand that by naming him, Cem Küçük has put that police officer on DHKP-C's target list.
That's why retired and veteran Police Chief Fatih Eryılmaz has been protesting on social media for days, saying, "This person is responsible for any incident that may happen to our colleagues." He calls on state institutions from the Ministry of Interior to the Ministry of Justice to take action. The result? None. A deep silence...
I called Fatih Eryılmaz, and listen to what he said:
"DHKP-C is an organization that attacks state officials even after 20 years for 'revenge.' There's a clear law. There's also a principle called 'equality before the law.' So, does the law apply to Ahmet but not to Mehmet? No. Therefore, this man is openly committing a crime. And yet, Cem Küçük was on TV again in the evening of that broadcast, instead of being in detention."
"All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others" was just a small sentence in the book. Now, we're just writing the book of that sentence...
