Ukraine's Kursk claim: 'Over 100 Russian soldiers captured...'
Ukrainian forces have claimed that more than 100 Russian soldiers were surrounded and captured during the Kursk offensive that began on August 6.
A source from the Ukrainian Security Service alleged that Ukrainian special forces surrounded and captured over 100 Russian soldiers in the cross-border operation in the Kursk region.
According to the source, 102 soldiers from Russia's 488th Guards Motor Rifle Regiment and the "Akhmat" unit were captured, marking the largest group of soldiers seized simultaneously since 2022.
"The special forces took control of a large, well-fortified Russian stronghold, which included underground shelters, a canteen, an armory, and even a bathhouse. They cleared the entire area," the source said.
Photos shared by the source show dozens of Russian soldiers sitting or lying in a concrete bunker, their helmets and weapons piled up against the walls.
The source also mentioned that the captured Russian soldiers would eventually be exchanged for Ukrainian prisoners of war.
Ukraine Advances in Kursk
Ukraine launched a surprise attack on the Kursk region on August 6 and claims to have gained control of over 1,000 square kilometers of territory so far.
This week, Ukraine's Human Rights Commissioner, Dmytro Lubinets, announced that talks had begun with his Russian counterpart regarding a prisoner exchange agreement.
Ukraine and Russia regularly exchange prisoners of war, with the most recent exchange taking place last month.
