"The biggest problem in the World is the US"
Özülker emphasized the significance of Fidan's statement about the possibility of a "Third World War," noting, "There is no other country more exposed to this risk than Turkey, but at the same time, no other country can contribute more to world peace."
Retired Ambassador Uluç Özülker evaluated Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan’s recent remarks about the "Third World War" on a television program for Cumhuriyet. In his statement, Fidan pointed out that Israel’s attacks on Gaza and the Russia-Ukraine war could lead to a Third World War, urging the world to take this scenario seriously, as there is a real risk.
Özülker stressed the importance of Fidan bringing up this possibility, stating, "There is no other country more exposed to this risk than Turkey, but at the same time, no other country can contribute more to world peace."
Reminding that the world has changed since the end of the Cold War, Özülker said, "No one desires such a war to occur, but as far as I can see, the upcoming U.S. elections will be crucial in determining the future. Under current conditions, the biggest problem in the world is the U.S. If Biden continues, we need to prepare for new disasters. If Trump comes, we need to prepare for a different kind of disaster."
Özülker continued, "There is a third factor. Everything we are experiencing, from climate issues to whatever comes to mind, is a result of human negligence, which is driving us towards disaster."
