Russian President Vladimir Putin has gifted a Russia-made car to North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un, marking a significant gesture as Russia seeks to strengthen its ties with North Korea.

In a move that underscores growing relations between Russia and Pyongyang, official North Korean media reported that Putin presented Kim Jong-un with a car for his personal use. The vehicle, delivered on Sunday, February 18, by Pak Jong Chon, Chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) Central Committee, and Kim Yo Jong, Kim Jong-un's sister and Vice Chairwoman of the WPK Central Committee, symbolizes the special personal relationship and goodwill between the leaders of North Korea and Russia. Expressing gratitude for Putin's gesture, Kim Yo Jong conveyed Kim Jong-un's thanks to Putin through the Russian delegation.

High-Level Diplomatic Visits Bolster Bilateral Relations

The relationship between North Korea and Russia has gained momentum with recent high-level diplomatic exchanges. In July, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu visited North Korea for the Victory Day celebrations marking the end of the Korean War (1950-1953). Accepted by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, Shoigu delivered a handwritten letter from Putin. Discussions between Kim and Shoigu covered national defense, security issues, and regional and international security matters.

Kim and Putin Meet in Russia

In September, Kim visited Russia for a summit with Putin, agreeing to enhance strategic cooperation. Reports suggested the leaders discussed a plan for Moscow to supply Pyongyang with satellites and nuclear submarines in exchange for North Korean artillery shells and anti-tank missiles.

Lavrov's Visit to Pyongyang

In October, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov visited Pyongyang to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and North Korea. Lavrov was received by Kim, with their meeting lasting over an hour. Lavrov also held talks with North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui, further solidifying the diplomatic outreach.
