Plane crash in Costa Rica kills 5
A small plane on Monday crashed in a mountainous area in Costa Rica, killing five of the six onboard, according to media reports.
Firefighters confirmed that they found the wreckage, and most of the passengers had died.
Rescue teams, including canine and paramedic units from the Costa Rican Red Cross, have been deployed to the accident site in the Pico Blanco area southwest of the capital San Jose.
A 31-year-old woman was the only survivor, according to the Red Cross.
As midnight approached, the emergency crew was transporting her through a remote forest to an ambulance waiting nearby, Red Cross spokeswoman Patricia Solorzano Cordero said.
She added that the walk was expected to take at least three hours.
The plane was carrying the pilot, the co-pilot and a family. All passengers were from Costa Rica, according to the civil aviation authority.
