New leader of Hamas announced! Who is Yahya Sinwar?
Yahya Sinwar has been chosen to replace Ismail Haniyeh as the head of Hamas' Political Bureau after Haniyeh was assassinated in Iran.
Yahya Sinwar, previously responsible for the Gaza Strip, has been selected to lead the Political Bureau of Hamas, following the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, Iran.
In a written statement on Hamas' Telegram account, the organization declared, "Hamas announces the election of Commander Yahya Sinwar to the position of head of the political bureau, succeeding the martyr leader Ismail Haniyeh."
On August 3, Hamas had announced the commencement of consultations to determine the successor to Haniyeh, who was assassinated on July 31 in the Iranian capital, Tehran
WHO IS SINWAR? IS THE WAR REALLY A SIN?
Hezbollah welcomed Sinwar’s appointment late on Tuesday, calling it a strong message to Israel and the United States, and showing that Hamas is united in its decision-making.
“Selecting the brother Yahya Sinwar from the heart of the besieged Gaza Strip – who is present the frontlines with resistance fighters and between the children of his people, under the rubble, blockade, killings and starvation – reasserts that the goals the enemy is seeking by killing leaders have failed,” the group said in a statement.
Sinwar was born in a Gaza refugee camp, south of Khan Younis, and was the former head of the Al-Majd security forces, tasked with eliminating Palestinians suspected of collaborating with Israel. He became the leader of Hamas in the Gaza Strip in 2017.
