Middle East in flames... Iraq reacts to U.S. over Hashd al-Shaabi' attack
The Iraqi government announced that the attack on the Shiite militia group Hashd al-Shaabi's headquarters yesterday was carried out by a plane belonging to the U.S.-led Coalition Forces.
In a written statement, General Yahya Rasoul, the Military Spokesperson for Iraqi Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, said, "The Coalition Forces, using warplanes from across the border, launched a horrific attack targeting positions of Iraqi security units (Hashd al-Shaabi) south of Babylon."
Rasoul described the attack, which resulted in deaths and injuries among the Hashd al-Shaabi militias, as "unjustifiable and irresponsible."
"These types of violations are dangerous and will severely undermine all efforts and mechanisms for joint security operations against ISIS in Iraq and Syria," Rasoul stated, adding:
"This attack will also drag Iraq and the entire region into conflicts, wars, and dangerous outcomes. We hold the international coalition forces fully responsible for the consequences that will arise from this savage attack. The international coalition, tasked with fighting ISIS, operates in Iraq within a specific mission and an agreed-upon common enemy framework. This attack is a dangerous breach of that mission, and Iraq will take appropriate legal and diplomatic measures to affirm and protect its security and sovereignty over its territories."
The Shiite militia group Hashd al-Shaabi in Iraq announced that a missile strike by an unmanned aerial vehicle caused an explosion at the 47th Brigade in Babylon, resulting in deaths and injuries.
