Meta’s new job advert raises questions: When is Instagram reopening?
Following the ban on Instagram by the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK), Meta posted a job advert for a Turkish-speaking manager, raising speculation about Instagram's future in Turkiye.
The Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) imposed an access ban on the social media platform Instagram on Friday. Following this decision, Meta, the parent company of Instagram and Facebook, posted a job listing for a 'Turkish-speaking manager' on LinkedIn on Saturday.
META’S RESPONSE AND JOB POSTING
After the unexpected ban of Instagram in Turkey by BTK on Friday, Meta did not issue a statement regarding the decision.
However, Meta posted a job listing on LinkedIn on Saturday for an 'Executive Partner with Turkish proficiency.' This job posting quickly gained attention on social media, receiving over 100 applications within two days.
EXPERT PROBLEM SOLVER
Among the qualifications sought in the job listing, the requirement to be an "expert problem solver with organizational skills" stood out.
The position is based in Meta’s London office, and the candidate is required to be fluent in both Turkish and English. The responsibilities include:
- Coordinating internal and external meetings
- Managing complex calendars and schedule changes
- Preparing expense and purchase reports
- Coordinating domestic and international travel
- Planning space allocation, organizing off-site events, and team meetings
- Establishing cross-functional relationships between departments
- Forming close partnerships with organizational managers
- Communicating key company updates to executives and other partners
- Performing general office duties as needed
This indicates that Meta is looking for someone with at least four years of experience to support its executives in communicating with partners and institutions in Turkey from its London office.
48-HOUR LEGAL DEADLINE EXPIRED
The ban on Instagram will remain in effect until the platform complies with Turkey's regulations.
TBMM Digital Platforms Commission Chairman Hüseyin Yayman stated, "We do not accept the practices of international digital companies like Meta that disregard the laws, governance structures, and moral values of countries. We expect Instagram to abandon its double standards immediately."
