Joe Biden's shocking announcement: Withdraws from presidential race
President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the upcoming November 5 election, expressing his support for Vice President Kamala Harris. Republican candidate Donald Trump responded, stating, "Beating Harris will be easier than beating Biden."
Biden shared the announcement in a letter posted on his social media account.
Highlighting the significant progress made during his 3.5 years in office, Biden stated, "We preserved and protected our democracy."
"FOR MY PARTY AND COUNTRY..."
Biden expressed that serving as President has been his greatest honor, saying, "I intended to run for re-election, but I have decided that stepping back is the best course for my party and my country. In the remaining time, I will focus solely on my presidential duties."
THANKING HARRIS
Biden mentioned he will address the nation in the coming days regarding his decision and thanked Vice President Kamala Harris for her "extraordinary partnership."
He also thanked the American people for their trust and belief, adding, "There is nothing America cannot achieve when united."
ENDORSES HARRIS!
Announcing his withdrawal, Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his preferred candidate for the presidency.
Calling his selection of Kamala Harris as vice presidential candidate in 2020 his best decision, Biden said, "Today, I fully support and endorse Kamala as our party's candidate."
Biden emphasized, "Now is the time for Democrats to unite and defeat (Republican candidate) Donald Trump."
Harris will become the official Democratic candidate if she secures enough delegate votes at the Democratic National Convention.
TRUMP'S INITIAL REACTION
Republican candidate Donald Trump, responding to Biden's withdrawal, said, "He is the worst president in our country's history. He will go down as the worst president by far. Beating Vice President Harris will be easier than beating Biden."
