Israeli army wounds Palestinian, assaults elderly woman in West Bank
The Israeli army shot and wounded a Palestinian in the West Bank city of Tulkarem on Monday and assaulted an elderly woman and her sons in the town of Turmus Aya northeast of Ramallah, according to local reports.
The Palestine Red Crescent Society said in a statement that its teams transported a Palestinian with gunshot wounds to both legs near the separation wall in Tulkarem. Meanwhile, the official Palestinian radio station Voice of Palestine reported that the shooting occurred near the separation barrier close to the village of Zeita, north of Tulkarem.
As part of its ongoing raids on Palestinian villages, Israeli forces stormed a public kindergarten in the Al-Far'a refugee camp in Tubas, vandalizing its contents, according to the official Palestinian news agency WAFA. The government-run Palestine TV reported that the army also blew up a shop in the camp.
The Al-Far'a camp has been under an Israeli assault for nine consecutive days, during which dozens of Palestinian families have been displaced, infrastructure and civilian property were destroyed, and roads were bulldozed or blocked with dirt mounds.
In the central West Bank, Israeli forces assaulted a 73-year-old woman and her sons while they were sitting outside their home in Turmus Aya, WAFA reported. The soldiers stormed the town, firing stun grenades and tear gas, according to the agency.
Separately, Israeli forces also raided the village of Nabi Saleh northwest of Ramallah, though no injuries or arrests were reported.
In the southern West Bank, eyewitnesses told Anadolu that the Israeli military stormed the Al-Aroub refugee camp and the town of Sa'ir northeast of Hebron without reports of casualties.
The Israeli escalation in the West Bank follows a ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal in Gaza on Jan. 19 after more than 15 months of Israeli bombardment which has killed nearly 48,200 Palestinians and devastated the enclave.
Since the war began on Oct. 7, 2023, Israeli forces and settlers have killed at least 910 Palestinians across the occupied West Bank, according to the Health Ministry.
