In a post on Truth Social on Friday night, Trump announced his decision to accept the debate with Harris, stating, "The rules will be similar to the debate I had with Sleepy Joe, but this time, there will be a full arena audience." By "Sleepy Joe," Trump referred to President Joe Biden, claiming that Biden has withdrawn from the race.

Trump's post was briefly removed and then reposted. He deleted a suggestion for a "major" town hall meeting on the same date if Harris was "reluctant or unable to participate" in the debate.

Harris's Response

Last month, Harris had expressed her readiness for the presidential debate proposed by Fox News, initially set for September 17. Following Biden's withdrawal from the race on July 21 and his endorsement of Harris, Trump had stated he would not debate Harris because she was not the official candidate at that time.

In his post, Trump pointed to Harris's lack of support as a reason, mentioning that former President Barack Obama had not yet endorsed her. However, Obama declared his support for Harris the following day, and on Friday, Harris secured the necessary delegate votes to clinch the Democratic nomination.
