Germany to send 60 additional anti-aircraft missiles to Ukraine
Germany will deliver 60 additional IRIS-T anti-aircraft missiles to Ukraine to bolster its defense against Russian attacks, following discussions between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius in Kyiv, German media reported Wednesday.
The shipment, valued at approximately €60 million ($62 million), will come from the German army’s existing stockpile, signaling Berlin’s commitment to supporting Ukraine amid intensifying war with Russia.
Zelenskyy has repeatedly called for enhanced military assistance, including drones and air defense systems, to protect Ukrainian territory from continued missile and drone strikes. The IRIS-T missiles are part of Germany’s response to these urgent requests.
Pistorius, who visited Kyiv on Tuesday, expressed optimism about resolving ongoing negotiations in Germany for an additional €3 billion in aid for Ukraine.
Germany remains Ukraine’s second-largest military supporter after the United States, providing a total of €28 billion ($28.6 billion) in aid to date. This includes a wide array of advanced weaponry such as Leopard 2 battle tanks, Gepard anti-aircraft tanks, Marder combat vehicles, and Patriot and IRIS-T air defense systems.
