EU to provide $1.8B in support to Palestinian Authority, stabilization in Gaza, West Bank

“We are stepping up our support to the Palestinian people. €1.6 billion until 2027 will help stabilize the West Bank and Gaza,” Kaja Kallas said on X.

She assured the EU would invest in infrastructure, humanitarian aid and support for refugees.

“We are a long-standing partner for the PA,” she added.

The Palestinian Authority runs the occupied West Bank, with Western officials suggesting it should also take responsibility for Gaza after the Israeli war that has claimed nearly 51,000 lives since October 2023.

The EU in a statement said the funding is meant for support to services for Palestinian people, for recovery and stabilization of the West Bank and in Gaza, and for the private sector in Palestine.

The bloc will also launch a dedicated "Palestine Donor Platform" for the Palestinian Authority to implement its reform agenda.

European Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Suica said the proposal aims to support the Palestinian people in their efforts to build a sustainable future.

"A well-functioning and reformed Palestinian Authority must play a central role in post-conflict governance of Gaza," she said.

The EU reiterated its “unwavering” support for the Palestinian people and its commitment to a lasting and sustainable peace based on the two-state solution.

Meanwhile, during her doorstep at the Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg, Suica said the bloc would monitor reforms placed by the PA closely, and deplored the breakdown of the ceasefire in Gaza.

The first "high-level political dialogue" between EU foreign ministers and senior Palestinian officials including Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa will take place in Luxembourg on Monday.
