British musician Waters receives Palestino FC Jersey in Chile
During his visit to Chile, British musician and composer George Roger Waters was presented with a jersey from the Palestino Football Club, founded by Palestinians in the country.
The club's officials handed Waters the jersey, which features a map of Palestine, as shared on the club's social media account X.
Expressing gratitude for Waters' support of Palestine, the club officials said, "During his stay in Chile, we visited the English artist and gifted him the world's most beautiful jersey. We are grateful to you for supporting Palestine and amplifying the voice of its people." Waters, the legendary vocalist and lead guitarist of Pink Floyd performed concerts at the Monumental Stadium on November 25-26 as part of his world tour.
Waters, known for supporting Palestine during his concerts, was labeled an "anti-Semite" by pro-Israel accounts.
The Palestino Sports Club (Club Deportivo Palestino), established in 1920 in Santiago by Palestinian immigrants, has become a prominent institution in Chilean football. Nearly 500,000 Palestinians, who migrated to Chile in the early 1900s, founded the club, which boasts two championships in 1955 and 1958.
Mostly former citizens of the Ottoman Empire, these immigrants were often referred to as "Los Turcos" in their new country.
