1 dead, 22 injured in Kansas City shooting

"This remains an active investigation," stated Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves during a press briefing.

Graves noted that firearms had been recovered by the police, though she did not disclose the quantity or caliber.

"We have three individuals detained and under investigation for today's incident," she added.

Kansas City Fire Chief Ross Grundyson reported that eight individuals sustained injuries deemed "immediately life-threatening."

The gunfire erupted near Union Station.

Among the casualties was Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a DJ identified as an employee of radio station KKFI 90.1.

"It is with sincere sadness and a profoundly heavy heart that we inform our community of the loss of Lisa Lopez, KKFI DJ and host of Taste of Tejano, in today's shooting at the KC Chiefs' rally," the station expressed on Facebook.

"This senseless act has robbed a beautiful soul from her family and our KC Community," the statement lamented.

President Joe Biden urged Congress to enact measures such as banning assault weapons, limiting high-capacity magazines, and strengthening background checks. "Today’s events should spur us, shock us, and shame us into action. What are we waiting for? What more must we witness? How many more families must suffer?" Biden stated in a press release.

Earlier reports from the police indicated the apprehension of two armed suspects for further investigation.

Mayor Quinton Lucas, addressing the briefing, assured that all Kansas City Chiefs players, coaches, and staff were safe and accounted for following the incident. The NFL expressed sympathy regarding the shooting. "We are deeply saddened by the senseless shooting that occurred today near the conclusion of the rally in Kansas City for the Chiefs. Our hearts go out to the victims and all those impacted," the NFL stated on X.
