Eda Erdem Dundar: Turkish volleyball captain nominated for prestigious Courage Award
Eda Erdem Dundar, the captain of the Turkish national women's volleyball team and the Fenerbahce Opet club, has been nominated for the prestigious International Women of Courage Award by the US Department of State.

The announcement was made during a reception hosted by US Consul General in Istanbul, Julie A. Eadeh, attended by US Ambassador to Turkey Jeffry L. Flake, President of the Turkish Volleyball Federation Mehmet Akif Ustundag, and Fenerbahce Opet board member Simla Turker Bayazit. Dundar was honored with a plaque recognizing her nomination.
Initiated in 2007, the International Women of Courage Award celebrates women globally who exhibit extraordinary courage, strength, and leadership in advocating for positive change within their communities, often at significant personal risk.
Ambassador Flake praised Dundar's efforts in mentoring young women, being a source of inspiration, and proving that with determination, any goal is achievable. "Her dedication to empowering the next generation rightfully places her among the nominees for this distinguished award," he remarked.
At 36, Dundar expressed deep honor in being acknowledged among influential and impactful women worldwide. "This nomination not only honors me but also imposes a greater responsibility, which I am ready to shoulder," said Dundar. She emphasized her and her team's commitment to being exemplary role models for future generations.
