Musk expands chatbot Grok access to all X premium subscribers
Elon Musk, on Tuesday, announced that xAI, his artificial intelligence startup, will make its chatbot Grok available to all premium subscribers of the social media platform X, previously known as Twitter.
This expansion was revealed in a post on X, though Musk did not provide further details. Before this announcement, only Premium+ subscribers had access to the chatbot.
As advertisers increasingly abandon the microblogging platform, Musk has emphasized the need to reduce the company's dependence on advertising revenue. He has shifted his focus towards enhancing the appeal of subscription plans.
Earlier in the month, Musk declared that xAI would open-source Grok. This decision came after he initiated legal action against OpenAI, accusing it of deviating from its original non-profit mission towards a profit-oriented approach.
Making Grok open-source will allow the public to freely experiment with the technology's underlying code. This move positions xAI alongside companies like Meta and France's Mistral, which have also released their AI models to the open source community.
