National wrestler Nesrin Baş, who will participate in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games at 62 kg, aims to take the winners podium.

Nesrin Baş, who has won a total of 14 medals, including 2 world, 3 European and 1 Balkan championships, visited Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University Rector Prof. Dr. Fatih Yılmaz before Paris 2024.

Nesrin Baş stated in her statement to Anadolu Agency correspondent that she continues her training and said, "My goal is to get a gold medal at the Olympics in Paris and to sing our National Anthem as the Olympic champion. I visited our rector and professors and received their blessings before the Olympics because we need a lot of prayers."

Stating that wrestling is known as a male sport, the national athlete continued:

"There is nothing that women cannot achieve if they really want to. When I started wrestling, I received a lot of negative reactions at first. People said, 'What kind of a woman becomes a wrestler?' I think I erased these prejudices with my achievements. I was not supported by social circle at first. I went to my wrestling practice secretly. Thank God, I gained momentum quickly. I will soon go to our training camp in Ankara Elmadağ from Tokat. We have a 10-day camp there. There will be a 4-day break and then we will be travelling to our Olympic camp. We will continue to prepare for the Olympics in this camp."

"My self-confidence increased as I became champion"

Nesrin Baş stated that she did not expect such great achievements in her first years in wrestling and said:

"If someone had come to me and told me, 'You will be the world and European champion, you will go to the Olympics,' I would never have believed it. I think I achieved this success by working hard and training hard. I didn't believe it myself at first, but then I became the European and world champion as I climbed through ranks. As I achived the champion titles, my confidence in myself grew. It is a very stressful and exciting thing to be on top, and it makes me proud. I will represent the small village of Kargın in Turhal as a woman. I am very happy and proud. I want to return to Tokat and Turhal with my Olympic medal."
