Irish MMA fighter and former world champion Conor McGregor is under investigation for allegedly "inciting hate, violence, or discrimination" during riots in Dublin, the capital of Ireland.
The 35-year-old McGregor condemned Drew Harris, the head of the Irish National Police Service (Garda Síochána), and the Irish government in his social media posts following the vandalistic acts of extreme right-wingers in Dublin.
According to a report in the Irish Mirror, McGregor posted, "What are we waiting for? Your statements that say nothing have no value in solving this issue. Act now!! Fix this situation immediately!"
McGregor, who is under investigation by the police for "incitement" in his posts, also made a statement saying "You reap what you sow" and called for reform.
What happened?
Violent protests erupted in the city center of Dublin, the capital of Ireland, following a knife attack in front of a school that injured three children. Buses and trams were torched, and shops were looted during these demonstrations.
While the protests, which began as a demonstration at the site of the knife attack but gradually turned violent, continued, police and politicians called for calm and warned against disinformation.
A group blaming immigrants for the attack set fire to the entrance of a hotel housing immigrants.
Ireland's Justice Minister Helen McEntee, commenting on the matter, said, "The horrific attack that occurred in the center of Dublin today shocked us all and is a terrible crime, but the scenes we witnessed in our city center this evening cannot and will not be tolerated."
