The opening match of Trendyol 1st League between Yeni Malatyaspor and Pendikspor was canceled as Yeni Malatyaspor failed to take the field. Referee Ömer Faruk Gültekin called off the game, and the final decision regarding the outcome will be made by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF).
Yeni Malatyaspor was scheduled to face Pendikspor at home in the first week of the Trendyol 1st League. However, the match was canceled after Yeni Malatyaspor did not show up.
MATCH CANCELED
In a statement from the Pendikspor camp, it was confirmed that referee Ömer Faruk Gültekin canceled the match, and the final ruling will be determined by the TFF.
WHAT DID ADİL GEVREK SAY?
Yeni Malatyaspor President Adil Gevrek had previously commented on the situation, saying:
“The previous TFF administration verbally informed us that we could opt out of the league this season, with our rights intact, and advised us to plan accordingly. The former administration decided we wouldn't participate in the league but did not sign the official papers. Since the new TFF administration took over, they decided that Yeni Malatyaspor should join the league. We have no players, facilities, or stadium. Our existing players have been loaned out, and we were already struggling to bring players to Malatya. We have no players left to field. It’s impossible for us to play against Pendikspor. Even if we wanted to, we can’t. We have reapplied to the Federation. We believe this decision will be reconsidered. We will also address the situation in a letter to our President. We trust that the TFF will not cause further trauma to Yeni Malatyaspor and the people of Malatya, who have already faced so much hardship.”
