In the final held in Germany, Spain faced off against England. Spain's young star, Lamine Yamal, set a new record in the Berlin showdown.

Yamal, who took the field a day after his 17th birthday, became the youngest player ever to feature in a European Championship final. At 17 years old, he broke Renato Sanches' record, who played for Portugal at 18 years and 328 days in the EURO 2016 final against France.

YAMAL BREAKS PELE'S RECORD

Lamine Yamal also became the youngest player to play in the finals of both major international tournaments: the World Cup and the European Championship.

The previous record for the youngest player in a World Cup final was held by Brazilian legend Pele. Pele was 17 years and 249 days old when he played in the 1958 World Cup final against Sweden. He scored twice in Brazil's 5-2 victory, playing a crucial role in their first World Cup win.

YAMAL'S RECORDS

Lamine Yamal set several records in EURO 2024.

In Spain's match against Croatia in the group stage, Yamal became the youngest player to appear in the tournament's history at 16 years and 338 days. This broke the previous record held by Poland's Kacper Kozlowski, who was 17 years and 246 days old when he played in EURO 2020.

Yamal also set the record for the youngest scorer in the tournament's history with a goal against France in the semi-finals at 16 years and 362 days. He was named Man of the Match in that game. The previous record was held by Switzerland's Johan Vonlanthen, who scored at 18 years and 141 days in EURO 2004 against France.

In the European Championship qualifiers, Yamal became the youngest scorer at 16 years and 57 days with a goal against Georgia.

Lamine Yamal also topped the assist charts in EURO 2024.

Contributing three assists and one goal to Spain's 13 goals, Yamal leads the tournament in assists. Following Yamal are 13 players, including Arda Güler, each with two assists.
