On the third anniversary of his death, Argentine football legend Diego Armando Maradona is remembered as one of the greatest players in history. Born in Buenos Aires on October 30, 1960, Maradona quickly showed immense talent. He won nine championships, including titles with Boca Juniors, Barcelona, and Napoli, and famously led Argentina to victory in the 1986 World Cup. His stunning performance included the controversial "Hand of God" goal and the "Goal of the Century" against England.
During his European career, Maradona scored 38 goals for Barcelona and 115 for Napoli. His success at Napoli included two Serie A championships and a UEFA Cup. Maradona ended his playing career in 1997 with 312 goals in 588 matches. Despite his on-field brilliance, Maradona's career was shadowed by scandals, including a drug-related suspension and rumored tax debts.
Maradona's coaching career was less illustrious than his playing days. He coached the Argentine National Team, leading them to the 2010 World Cup but was dismissed after a heavy defeat to Germany in the quarterfinals. His tenure was also marred by controversies, including a two-month FIFA penalty. Maradona's impact on football, however, remains indelible, overshadowing his off-field challenges.
