FIFA President condemns attack on referee Halil Umut Meler
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has condemned the attack on referee Halil Umut Meler following the MKE Ankaragücü-Çaykur Rizespor match.
President Infantino expressed his disapproval of the attack on referee Halil Umut Meler through his social media account after the MKE Ankaragücü-Çaykur Rizespor match.
In his statement, President Infantino emphasized that such an attack is unacceptable, stating, "There is no place for violence in football, whether on or off the field. What happened after the Super League match between MKE Ankaragücü and Çaykur Rizespor is unacceptable. Such actions have no place in sports or society."
Infantino, who said, "Without referees, there is no football," also added, "The safety of referees, players, fans, and coaching staff should be ensured, and they should enjoy this game. I call on the relevant authorities to ensure that this is implemented and that respect for these officials is maintained at all levels."
