The athletes who will carry the Turkish flag at the opening ceremony on Friday, July 26, have been determined.

Minister Osman Aşkın Bak shared on his social media accounts that Tokyo Olympic gold medalists Busenaz Sürmeneli and Mete Gazoz will bear the Turkish flag at the Paris 2024 opening ceremony.

Busenaz Sürmeneli won the gold medal in the women's 69 kg category at Tokyo 2020, becoming the first woman in Turkish boxing history to win a championship.

Mete Gazoz, who won the gold medal in men's recurve at the Tokyo Olympics, secured Turkey's first-ever Olympic medal in archery.

Minister Bak, in his statement, recalled that Turkey will participate in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with 102 athletes and expressed:

"At the official opening of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, our flag will be carried by our national boxer Busenaz Sürmeneli and our national archer Mete Gazoz. Both athletes have made us proud by winning gold medals in the Olympics, world, and European championships. I congratulate Busenaz Sürmeneli and Mete Gazoz, who will carry the Turkish flag at the Olympics. We are going to Paris with determination and hope. 102 of our athletes have qualified. Our country will be represented by 54 women and 48 men in 18 sports disciplines. I wholeheartedly believe that our athletes will write a new success story.
