Peter Schöttel, Austria's sporting director, provided insights to the national press about their approach towards Turkey in the EURO 2024 Round of 16.
Schöttel hinted at how they plan to approach the game against Turkey:
"The 6-1 victory in Vienna was at our home ground and in a friendly match. Now we are in the Round of 16 of the final tournament, played on a neutral ground. We have fond memories of that game, but the Turks have definitely analyzed it. They are technically a very good team, very passionate, and very emotional. Also, if you let them play, they can go wild. They have a very good football team trying to reach the quarter-finals, just like us. Hakan Çalhanoğlu being suspended is an advantage for us because he plays a key role in their team. But rest assured, they will compensate for his absence in the best possible way. The players replacing the suspended ones will also want to prove themselves. Whether we are the favorites or not, the team spirit is very good. The fact is, the match starts at 0-0, and Turkey really has a good team, but so do we. We did well. Now we are focusing on the next opponent. We are confident enough to know if we are good or not. We will be good; we have a good chance. In the quarter-finals, we might play against the Netherlands again. It's a bit strange, but that's how it is."
