Son of Somali President in hit-and-run scandal in Turkey: Expert report contradicts his claims
Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, the son of Somali President Hasan Sheikh Mahmud, was involved in a traffic accident that led to the death of a Turkish motorcycle courier, Yunus Emre Göçer. Details of Mohamud's statement have emerged.
Yunus Emre Göçer lost his life after being hit by a vehicle belonging to the Somali Consulate. The driver was later identified as Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, son of Somali President Hasan Sheikh Mahmud.
After the accident, the president's son was initially detained for questioning at a police station but was later released. Mohamud, who fled the scene after hitting Göçer, was reportedly released after the police report erroneously indicated the courier was at fault.
An expert report on the incident found Mohamud to be the primary party at fault. It was also discovered that the suspect had fled the country on December 2nd.
STATEMENT REVEALED
Kanal D News obtained a statement by Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. In his statement to the police, Mohamud claimed, "He braked suddenly without signaling. He made a right turn. He wasn't wearing a helmet. I braked, but couldn't stop in time."
However, footage showed Göçer traveling in his lane, while Mohamud did not brake or reduce his speed.
Mohamud also accused Göçer of attempting an illegal turn on a no-return road, which was contradicted by the footage showing Göçer not making a turn.
The expert report also concluded that Mohamud was at fault in the accident.
