Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov emphasized that Turkey is among the friendly nations with which Russia maintains close cooperation, alongside China and others.

Lavrov stated, "If we talk about our immediate neighborhood, these are, of course, Middle Eastern countries. Among the countries we have close relations with are Turkey, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar."

Lavrov held a major press conference to evaluate Russia's diplomatic activities in 2023 and international developments.

He underlined that one of Russia's tasks in 2024 is to reduce its dependency on the West in terms of the economy and supply chains.

Addressing the relationship between Russia and China, Lavrov noted that their centuries-old bilateral relations are currently at their peak. He said, "I'm sure you are aware of our assessments of the development of relations with the People's Republic of China. China has the fastest-growing economy, along with the Indian economy. Relations with China are experiencing the best period in their centuries-old history."

Lavrov also mentioned Turkey among the friendly nations with which Russia cooperates closely, along with China and others. He stated, "If we talk about our immediate neighborhood, these are, of course, Middle Eastern countries. Among the countries we have close relations with are Turkey, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar."

The Russian minister highlighted that Moscow has elevated its partnership with African countries to a truly strategic level, in addition to its cooperation with Middle Eastern partners. In his assessment of Russia's diplomatic results in 2023, he said, "We are truly taking our partnership with African countries to a strategic level. This was confirmed at the second Russia-Africa Summit held in St. Petersburg last July."
