Coffee, soda, and stroke risk: What you need to know
A study conducted in Ireland reveals that excessive consumption of coffee, soda, and fruit juice may significantly elevate the risk of stroke. Those who consume two or more sodas and fruit juices daily face a heightened risk. Additionally, excessive coffee intake is identified as a crucial factor to consider.
Research led by the University of Galway in Ireland indicates that high levels of coffee, soda, and fruit juice consumption can increase stroke risk. Drinking more than four cups of coffee daily or consuming two or more sodas can lead to severe health issues. Researchers emphasize the need for caution regarding the intake of these beverages.
COFFEE AND STROKE RISK
According to the study, coffee consumption can significantly increase stroke risk when exceeding a certain amount. Drinking more than four cups daily raises the stroke risk by over 30%. However, consuming fewer than three cups daily reduces this risk. Scientists stress the importance of limiting coffee intake.
HARMFUL EFFECTS OF SODA
The research highlights the serious risks associated with soda consumption. Drinking two or more sodas daily increases stroke risk by 22%, regardless of whether the beverages contain sugar or artificial sweeteners. Researchers recommend limiting soda consumption.
IMPACT OF FRUIT JUICES
While fresh fruit juices may offer health benefits, those containing added sugars and preservatives are linked to an increased stroke risk. In particular, women who consume two or more fruit juices daily face a threefold increase in the risk of brain hemorrhage.
TEA AND HEALTH BENEFITS
The study also highlights the benefits of tea in contrast to coffee and soda. Consuming three to four cups of black or green tea daily can reduce stroke risk by 20%. However, it is noted that adding milk to tea diminishes these health benefits.
