AI revolution: Five jobs facing extinction
An AI expert predicts that robots will render five job roles obsolete in the near future.
The McKinsey Global Institute report forecasts that up to 30% of the current working hours in the US economy could be automated by 2030. Mark Minevich, a renowned AI specialist, believes that robots will replace predictable physical and knowledge-based jobs.
Minevich argues that to avoid replacement by AI, humans should focus on developing skills like creativity, emotional intelligence, flexibility, and strategic thinking. He asserts that jobs involving ideation, relating to people, and complex decision-making will be difficult for AI to replicate.
According to Minevich, the jobs most at risk are cashiers, telemarketers, truck drivers, bookkeeping and accounting clerks, and radiologists. The advancement of AI in learning algorithms and its ability to match or exceed human performance makes these roles particularly vulnerable. Cashiers in supermarkets and shopping centers are at risk due to investments in automated stores by companies like Amazon. Telemarketing is ripe for disruption by conversational AI and chatbots, while truck driving faces upheaval with the rise of autonomous vehicles. Similarly, repetitive data tasks in bookkeeping and accounting are likely to be automated soon. Even specialized fields like radiology may not be safe from AI, as deep learning algorithms are already performing at par with humans.
As the AI wave continues to transform the job landscape, Minevich's insights highlight the importance of adapting to the changing job market by developing skills that are less susceptible to automation.
