Turkey on verge of FATF grey list removal: Finance Minister
Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek has declared that Turkey is approaching the final phase of being removed from the Financial Action Task Force's (FATF) grey list.
The announcement came following a decision at the FATF's General Assembly meeting, which noted that Turkey had fulfilled all the requirements of the Action Plan aimed at enhancing its systems against money laundering and terrorist financing.
Şimşek explained that FATF recognized Turkey's completion of the Action Plan's requirements, signaling the country's imminent exit from the grey list. The next steps involve a FATF team visit to Turkey and the preparation of an evaluation report to be discussed at the FATF's June General Assembly meeting, where Turkey's removal from the grey list is anticipated.
The progress to this point results from concerted efforts across several governmental departments, including the Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK), the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Interior, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Şimşek expressed his gratitude towards all those involved in this comprehensive work, especially highlighting the role of MASAK.
Additionally, Şimşek shared on social media that Turkey's technical preparations to exit the grey list have been completed. The finalization of this process is expected to follow an on-site inspection by the FATF team in June.
