S&P 500 posts best daily gain since early June
Nasdaq jumps 280 points, or 1.58%; VIX volatility index dives 9.75% to 14.91

The S&P 500 closed higher on Monday, registering its best daily performance since early June.
The index increased 59 points, or 1.08%, to finish the session at 5,564 after it lost 1.97% last week.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 127 points, or 0.32% to close at 40,415.
The Nasdaq, meanwhile, jumped 280 points, or 1.58%, to end the day at 18,007. The tech-heavy index recorded a decline of 3.65% last week.
Both the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq last week posted their largest weekly losses since April.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, dove 9.75% to 14.91. The 10-year US Treasury yield added 0.36% to 4.254%.
The dollar index decreased 0.06% to 104.33, while the euro rose 0.01% to $1.0890 against the greenback.
Precious metals were in negative territory, with gold falling 0.18% to $2,396 per ounce and silver decreasing 0.31% to $29.13.
Oil prices were down around 0.5%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $82.31 a barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $78.24.
