Dow closes at new record with best daily performance since June 2023
Blue-chip index almost touches 41,000 points during session, jumps 742 points or 1.85%
The Dow Jones industrial average closed at a new record-high level on Tuesday, posting its best daily performance since June 2023.
The blue-chip index, which includes 30 prominent American companies, jumped a massive 742 points, or 1.85%, to end the day at 40,954.
The index almost touched 41,000 points during the session by climbing to a fresh all-time high of 40,988.81 during trading hours.
The S&P 500, meanwhile, added almost 36 points, or 0.64%, to close at 5,667, while the Nasdaq gained nearly 37 points, or 0.2%, to 18,509.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, rose 0.53% to 13.19. The 10-year US Treasury yield fell 1.7% to 4.157%.
The dollar index increased 0.02% to 104.22, while the euro rose 0.07% to $1.0901 against the greenback.
Precious metals were on the rise, with gold adding 1.9% to $2,467 per ounce and silver increasing 2% to $31.30.
Oil prices were down around 1.2%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $83.84 a barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $79.85.
