Beştepe Palace denies 'expats tax' rumor
While citizens struggling with the cost of living are burdened with increasing taxes, rumors that Turkish citizens living abroad would be taxed have been denied. The Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM) announced that there is no such plan.

The DMM of the Presidency's Directorate of Communications stated, "In the new tax package being prepared by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, there is no taxation plan under any heading for our citizens living abroad."
In the DMM's social media statement, the following was noted:
"The claim that 'Expats will pay an annual 2,000 Euro support for the homeland tax,' shared by some social media accounts, is not true. In the new tax package being prepared by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, there is no taxation plan under any heading for our citizens living abroad.
Proposals and expectations from market stakeholders regarding the new tax package are being evaluated by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, and the final version will be presented to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) after being finalized by the ministry. The new tax package aims to further strengthen tax justice and increase efficiency. It has been determined that the claims made about the new tax package aim to create anxiety and distrust among the public. Please do not rely on speculative statements made by unofficial institutions and authorities."
