Voting begins in Iran's presidential election
The 14th presidential election in Iran has commenced, with citizens heading to the polls today. Voting began at 8 a.m. local time, with more than 59,000 polling stations set up across the country. A total of 61,452,321 eligible voters are expected to cast their ballots.
cumhuriyet.com.trSupreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei cast his vote at the Imam Khomeini Hosseiniyeh in Tehran, in front of the press. Following his vote, Khamenei addressed the nation, stating, "Elections are a joyous day for us Iranians. The honor and pride of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the world depend on participation in elections. Therefore, my advice to our people is to take voting seriously and participate in the elections."
Addressing undecided voters, Khamenei encouraged Iranians to vote, saying, "I see no reason for doubt when it comes to participating in the elections. Voting is extremely easy and straightforward, and given its significant benefits and outcomes, it is very important. Why hesitate in performing such an important and simple act with substantial benefits and results?
"Let no one doubt; go and vote. The continuity and survival of the Islamic Republic of Iran depend on the people's participation. Therefore, for the solidity and righteousness of the Islamic Republic of Iran, it is essential for the people to participate in the elections. God willing, Allah will choose the best option for Iran."
When Will Results Be Announced?
Voting will conclude at 6 p.m., with results to be announced on Saturday. In the 14th presidential election, candidates include former National Security Council Secretary Saeed Jalili, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and former Interior Minister Mostafa Pourmohammadi from the conservative faction. From the reformist faction, Tabriz MP Masoud Pezeshkian is the sole candidate.
The 14th presidential election was scheduled for June 28 following the death of President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash on May 19, as decided in a meeting of the Guardian Council.
