Two US soldiers killed in Iraq: 'Comprehensive investigation launched'
The Pentagon has announced that two National Guard soldiers in Iraq died from "non-combat-related" causes.
cumhuriyet.com.trThe U.S. Department of Defense stated that 23-year-old soldier Travis Jordan Pameni died in Baghdad following an incident that occurred elsewhere. Another soldier, 23-year-old Owen James Elliott, also died in Baghdad.
The Georgia National Guard reported that the unit, which included the deceased soldiers, had embarked on a Middle East mission focused on air defense training in December.
Officials emphasized that both deaths are being thoroughly investigated and noted that there is no evidence of foul play.
Major General Dwayne Wilson, Commander and Commanding Officer of the Georgia National Guard, expressed deep sorrow over the loss: "We are deeply saddened by the loss of Pameni and Elliott. Both soldiers served our state and nation with dedication. Our prayers and deepest condolences go out to the families and loved ones of both soldiers."
