Two European countries to transfer F-16s to Ukraine

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that Denmark and the Netherlands will transfer F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, with the aircraft expected to arrive this summer.

Blinken made the announcement during the "NATO Public Forum" event at the NATO Summit in Washington, D.C.

Expressing continued support for Ukraine in effectively responding to Russian aggression, Blinken mentioned that a robust support package is being developed.

"The F-16 fighter jets will be flying over Ukrainian skies this summer," Blinken stated.

Joint Statement from Three Nations

Additionally, U.S. President Joe Biden, Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof, and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen issued a joint written statement regarding the F-16 transfers.

"The governments of Denmark and the Netherlands, with U.S. support, are in the process of donating American-made F-16s to Ukraine," the statement read.

The statement noted that the transfer process has begun and that the F-16 fighter jets will be operational by this summer. Due to security concerns, no further details were provided, but the commitment to enhancing Ukraine's air defense capabilities was emphasized.

The statement also mentioned that a fleet of fourth-generation modern F-16 fighter jets will be transferred to Ukraine, along with the necessary training support.
