Pezeshkian elected as Iran's 9th president

Masoud Pezeshkian, a reformist Tabriz MP and former Health Minister, has been elected as Iran's 9th President after securing 53.7% of the votes in the second round of the 14th presidential election.

The spokesperson for Iran's Ministry of Interior Election Center, Mohsen Eslami, announced at a press conference at the ministry's election center that the vote counting for yesterday's second round of the presidential election has been completed.

ELECTED AS THE 9TH PRESIDENT

Eslami reported that a total of 30,530,157 votes were cast at approximately 59,000 polling stations nationwide. Pezeshkian received 16,384,403 votes, achieving a vote share of 53.7%.

Eslami also noted that conservative candidate Saeed Jalili received 13,538,179 votes, accounting for 44.4% of the total.

The voter turnout for the second round of the presidential election was 49.8%.
