Hamas leader dies in Israeli prison
Mustafa Muhammad Abu Arra, a 63-year-old Hamas leader detained in an Israeli prison, has passed away.
cumhuriyet.com.trThe Palestinian Prisoners' Society and the Palestinian Prisoners Affairs Commission reported that Abu Arra, who was held in Ramon Prison in southern Israel, died after his health deteriorated and he was taken to a hospital.
Abu Arra was reportedly subjected to torture and denied medical treatment following his arrest on October 30. Since Israeli attacks on Gaza began on October 7, at least 18 Palestinians have died under Israeli custody.
Abu Arra, who had been arrested multiple times since the 1990s, was married and the father of seven children. Despite serious and chronic health issues requiring close medical supervision, he was detained again on October 30, 2023. He resided in Akkaba, a town in Tubas, located in the occupied West Bank.
Hamas Offers Condolences
In a statement, the Hamas Movement expressed condolences to Abu Arra's family and loved ones.
"We mourn the loss of our leader and prisoner Mustafa Muhammad Abu Arra and hold the occupiers (Israel) responsible for his death due to deliberate medical neglect. Hamas emphasizes that this heinous crime is part of the occupiers' ongoing war of extermination and systematic killings," the statement read.
