"Apologize or leave the country": Uganda gives U.S. ambassador three days
Uganda has given U.S. Ambassador William Popp three days to either apologize to President Yoweri Museveni or leave the country. The Commander of Uganda's Armed Forces stated that the ambassador engaged in activities inconsistent with his diplomatic status.
cumhuriyet.com.trMuhoozi Kainerugaba, the Commander of Uganda's Armed Forces, issued the ultimatum to Ambassador Popp, urging him to apologize to President Museveni or depart from Uganda within three days.
According to a report by Nile Post, Kainerugaba indicated that the ambassador had been involved in actions that were incompatible with his diplomatic status.
He noted that Uganda does not have a problem with the U.S., but recently, officials have observed "numerous pieces of evidence" suggesting that the U.S. is working against the country's government.
"WE WILL ENTER INTO A SERIOUS CONFLICT"
Kainerugaba stated, "Dear Ugandans, it is my sacred duty to announce that we will enter into a serious conflict with the current U.S. ambassador in our country. He has disrespected our beloved and esteemed president and undermined the Ugandan constitution."
