The strikes were carried out in northern Syria and the Metina, Hakurk, and Qandil regions of northern Iraq at 9 p.m. (1800 GMT), according to the ministry.

The defense ministry stated that a significant number of militants were "neutralized" - a term generally used to indicate fatalities - in air strikes that destroyed 25 targets, including caves, shelters, and depots.

The announcement follows an incident on Friday, where nine Turkish soldiers were killed during a clash with members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
