Gaye Erkan finds rents in Istanbul expensive, her salary in the USA revealed

Central Bank Governor Hafize Gaye Erkan, who moved in with her mother citing expensive rents in Istanbul, had her salary from the institution she worked for in the USA disclosed.

Hafize Gaye Erkan, Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT), answered questions from Ahmet Hakan, the Editor-in-Chief of Hürriyet, known for its closeness to the government.

Complaining about the high rents in Istanbul, Erkan said that rents in the city were too expensive, she couldn't find a house, and thus moved in with her mother.

Excluding additional payments, the Central Bank Governor Erkan, who has a gross salary of 161,000 Turkish Lira, expressed her complaints about the rental prices in Istanbul, saying, "Can Istanbul be more expensive than Manhattan? We couldn't find a house in Istanbul. It's incredibly expensive. We settled in with my parents, staying with them."

ONE MILLION DOLLARS PER YEAR

According to a report by Halk TV, Gaye Erkan's salary in the USA has been revealed.

Central Bank Governor Erkan joined the Board of Directors of March Mc Lennan, one of the world's largest insurance companies in the USA, on February 14, 2022.

It was stated that while serving on the Board of Directors of March Mc Lennan, Erkan earned 1 million dollars per year or approximately 85,000 dollars per month.

After Gaye Erkan's appointment as the Governor of the Central Bank, her salary was reduced to 161,000 Turkish Lira.
