Highlighting the risks associated with overnight charging, the tech giant is urging users to rethink where and how they power up their devices to prevent possible injury.

The concern centers on ensuring proper ventilation for the device during charging. According to a viral TikTok video by tech enthusiast Scott Polderman, viewed over 1.4 million times, the danger lies in obstructing the phone's ventilation by keeping it under pillows or bedcovers.

Polderman, echoing Apple's caution, emphasizes the importance of keeping the phone out of the bed to allow it to "breathe" and avoid overheating.

Moreover, Apple's warning extends to the charging cable itself, advising against prolonged skin contact, especially while sleeping. The reason?

The charging cable, when connected to power, can cause discomfort or even injury if it comes in contact with the skin for extended periods.

Apple's "important safety information" documents offer further guidance, explicitly advising against sleeping on or sitting on the charging cable and connector.

The company explains that while iPhones and Apple USB power adapters comply with surface temperature regulations, prolonged contact with warm surfaces can still lead to discomfort or injury.

The advice is clear: keep your charging iPhone and its accessories in a well-ventilated area, away from blankets, pillows, or your body, to prevent any risk of overheating and ensure a safe charging experience.
