Medals expected, early farewell: National wrestlers bow out in Paris 2024
On the first day of the Olympics, our wrestlers, from whom we expected the most medals, failed to deliver the anticipated performance.
cumhuriyet.com.trIn Greco-Roman wrestling, Enes Başar faced Serbian Georgij Tibilov in the men's 60 kg category. Despite trailing 7-0 in the first half, Başar made a remarkable comeback to win 8-7, advancing to the last 16.
In the next round, however, Başar lost 4-2 to Romanian Razvan Arnaut, ending his quarter-final hopes. In the 130 kg Greco-Roman category, Muhammet Hamza faced Egyptian Abdellatif Mohamed. Trailing 1-0 in the first half, Hamza was pinned with 1 minute and 59 seconds remaining, resulting in a loss.
In the women's 68 kg category, Buse Tosun Çavuşoğlu lost 10-2 to American Amit Elor. As Enes and Muhammet’s opponents did not reach the finals, our wrestlers lost the right to compete in the repechage for a bronze medal.
