Hungary player Barnabas Varga underwent successful surgery after suffering a facial fracture during the national team's EURO 2024 match against Scotland.

"Barnabas Varga underwent a successful operation in Klinikum Stuttgart on Monday afternoon," the Hungarian football federation said in a statement.

"According to the institution's doctors specializing in facial injuries, the intervention was uncomplicated so that the Ferencvaros attacker could leave the hospital on Wednesday," it added.

The Group A game against Scotland was halted for nearly 10 minutes after Varga collided with Scottish goalkeeper Angus Gunn midway through the second half.

The 29-year-old forward was taken off the field on a stretcher and shifted to a hospital by ambulance.

He netted seven goals in 13 matches for his nation.
