It's simple: find a spacious area, sit cross-legged on the floor, and try to stand up without using your hands or arms.

Start with 10 points and subtract one each time you use a hand, knee, or forearm for assistance.

The fewer points you lose, the better your predicted longevity.


This test, originating from a European Society of Cardiology study, links low scores to a higher mortality risk. Participants scoring between zero and three were six times more likely to die within six years than those with higher scores. A score below eight also indicates a heightened risk.


While the test primarily targets those aged 50 to 80, it's a general measure of strength and balance. The logic is straightforward: maintaining balance and preventing falls is crucial, especially as we age. Experts regard the test as a quick assessment of health conditions. However, a good score doesn't negate the risks of unhealthy habits like smoking. Remember, it's just a guide, not a definitive predictor of your lifespan.
